Hudson MilestonesAdult ActivitiesThe Adult Activities Department provides day programming for over 100 individuals with developmental disabilities of the Hudson County community. Adult Training Centers (ATCs)There are two Adult Training Centers (ATC's) located in Bayonne and Jersey City. These centers are places of individual expression, learning and creation. In collaboration with Artsgenesis, a dedicated group of professional artists and actors, our program members have become trees, clouds and rivers. More importantly, they learn that imagination is fun, and that each of us contains multitudes, yet is distinctly "I" and worthy of esteem, both from self and others. Programming is developed based on each person's interests, goals and needs. Our adult training center programming emphasizes community based activities such as: Street savvy and safety Living Comfortably with others Social and recreational visits to diverse local sites Referral and Linkage to Mental Health Services As always, our focus is on providing whatever assistance a person requires for complete participation in his/her community. Putting our clients to work for youA very practical aspect of this program is to provide our clients with a feeling of accomplishment for their efforts ARCworksThe ARCworks component of the Jersey City ATC is a pre-vocational training curriculum for up to eighteen people who have clearly stated a desire to work in the community. ARCworks provides a job-like environment and introduces participants to the world of work through job sampling, travel training, video assisted interview techniques, job seeking and application, and, most importantly, through work itself. ARCworks is a specialized section of the program which works at activities such as collating, mailings, packaging, small assembly and shredding. ARCworks has done subcontract work for FAO Schwartz through the Febland Group of New York, as well as Alpha Metals, a local industry, and Jersey Gardens Mall, New Jersey's newest and largest mall. ARCworks provides the employees to staff the SpARCkling Clean Laundromat, a local business which the agency operates as a training site for interested individuals. It is hoped that this experience becomes a springboard for individual placement with other community employers.
